Xativa (in Valencian and officially, Xàtiva) is a municipality and a city in the Valencian Community (Spain) located in the south of the province of Valencia, in the north of the Central Counties and capital of the region of La Costera. It has the largest number of enclaves in all of Spain, with a total of twenty-six, 4 and in 2015 it had 29,095 inhabitants (INE) .5 The city constitutes, together with a dozen municipalities very close to it, an integrated urban area (AUI ) which had 51,246 inhabitants in 2007.Historically, Játiva was one of the most important populations in the Kingdom of Valencia, rivaling even Valencia and Orihuela, the other two most important cities in the foral era. It was the birthplace of the Borja popes and preserves an important artistic heritage, despite the fact that it was burned in 1707 by Bourbon troops in retaliation for supporting Australian troops during the War of Succession. In 1822 it became the capital of the Xativa province, which disappeared as a result of the territorial division of Spain in 1833.
